The Buda Castle in Budapest is waiting for you on Saturday, October 17th, 2015 where you will meet and play against GM Judit Polgar on the occasion of the international 1000 FACES OF CHESS - GLOBAL CHESS FESTIVAL, sponsored by the Judit Polgar Chess Foundation
Judit Polgar herself will officially open the Open Challenge KREYON of Chess Composition during the KREYON DAY to be held on September 13th, 2015 at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome.
Basic rules:
- The participation at the challenge is open to everyone, both amateur and professional chess players
- Participants have to submit their chess compositions of the kind "Mate in n" only
- The stipulation may not be multiple and has to be always declared, e.g., “Mate in 3”
- Compositions have to be described with at least three suitable keywords
- The theme of the composition has to be explicitly specified in detail together with the reason why it is believed that the composition is aesthetically attractive
- Multiple submissions are accepted but they must not be minor variations of the same theme
- The submission deadline is scheduled on October 4th, 2015 at 23:59 CET
- Compositions have to be submitted by filling in the form at the web page http://www.kreyon.net/kreyon/challenge/chess_form_eng
Rules:
- The exact number of pieces and pawns at disposal for your composition were declared by GM Judit Polgar during the Kreyon Day:

The available pieces are: 2 kings, 1 rook, 2 bishops, 2 knights, 4 pawns for a total of 11 pieces/pawns

A piece or pawn may be removed (this operation may be done only once)

A piece or pawn may be added, included a queen (this operation may be done only once)

As the result of the application of both previous rules, only a piece or pawn may be replaced by a different one

As the result of previous rules the number of pieces/pawns at disposal may be 10 or 11 or 12

There must be a white and black king; all other pieces/pawns may be chosen of any color

- The solution of the composition must coincide with the declared stipulation
- The solution must be provided in algebraic notation according to the english convention (K=King, Q=Queen, R=Rook, B=Bishop, N=kNight, P=Pawn)
- The initial position of pieces and pawns must be clearly reported
- The initial position must be legal. i.e., it should ideally stem from a real chess game
- White always move first
- Chess engines may be used to confirm the correctness of the stipulation
- Plagiarism will be detected by comparing all compositions with a database containing around one million problems already published and will be punished with disqualification
Judgement:
- The most aesthetically attractive compositions will be selected and submitted to the judgment of GM Judit Polgar for the awards
- The preliminary selection will be accomplished by a panel of chess players
- The opinion of the evaluating panel is incontestable
Rewards:
- The first place wins 600 Euro and will meet and play against GM J. Polgar on October 17th, 2015 during the event 1000 FACES OF CHESS - GLOBAL CHESS FESTIVAL in Budapest
- The second place wins 300 Euro
- The third place wins 100 Euro
- The fourth and fifth place win 50 Euro each
- The prizes are not cumulative
- All prizes need not be awarded in case there are less than 5 acceptable solutions
- The winner agrees to participate to the above mentioned event in Budapest on October 17th, 2015
